Safety Tips To Ensure Everyone Has A Spook-tacular Halloween!

Kids look forward to Halloween just like they look forward to Christmas. It is a night filled with sweet treats and good eats. Here are some helpful tips to keep everyone safe this Halloween!

If you have pumpkins on the porch with candles in them, make sure to set them far enough away where childrens costumes will not brush up against them.

Help your child pick a costume that does not block or limit their eyesight.

Stop at familiar houses in neighborhoods you know.

Make sure your child carries a flash light, glow stick or that they have reflective tape on their costumes to make them more visible in the dark.

If older children are going out without an adult let them know to stay together in groups and set a specific time for them to be home.

Instruct children to not to eat any treats until they get home and they are examined by an adult.

Check to see if your town is having a Street Fest or Harvest Festival. This can be much safer than Trick-or-Treating door to door.

If props are used (i.e. fake swords, knives, guns) make sure they are flexible and do not appear authentic.

Make sure children know to stay on well-lit streets and never cut across yards or alleys.

Super WHY! Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer Review

Since Princess P is just now getting into cartoons I am just now finding out how many are out there! This whole time I have been unaware of a certain animated show that airs on PBS Kids that meets all of my cartoon criteria. How come no one told me about Super WHY! before? It is educational, fun and adorably cute. What is even more awesome is that Learning Curve has developed a line of educational toys that goes hand-in-hand with the show.

Learning Curve sent us the Super WHY! Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer (Ages 3+) to review. (I am told that this certain computer plays a large role in the show.) The Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer features a fully-interactive touchscreen, an easy to use keyboard, a Why Writer Stylus, and most importantly a volume control. One of the things that makes this computer special is that it has a "Grow-with-Me" Curriculum that helps teach alphabet skills, spelling, letter sounds and rhyming at different skill levels.

When it arrived I could not wait to give the Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer a try (neither could Princess P). As soon as I turned it on I was greeted by Super WHY! and was told to choose a character and level. When it came time to choose a game I chose one of my favorites, "The Ugly Duckling". The game was a fun rhyming game to help the duckling swim. I love the fact that the computer is so interactive and that it has kids actually touch the screen to select options, which is improving their fine motor skills. I also love the fact that the keyboard is not actual keys but a flat surface that easily wipes clean. I am sure it also makes kids feel special to have a laptop computer just like mommy and daddy.

Learning Curve offers many other items in the Super WHY! line like the Wave & Learn Magic Spelling Wand and the Style and Pose Princess Presto. I know Princess P would love to find the Super WHY! Whyatt Flyer Ride-on under the tree this Christmas!

You can purchase the Super WHY! Touch & Learn Super Duper Computer at Learning Curve for $34.99!

A big thank you to Learning Curve for this review opportunity!

Admiral Road Designs Review & Giveaway

*This Giveaway Is Now Closed.*
For a child nothing could be more comforting than a blanket. It will be there to keep them warm when it is cold and keep them safe during the night. So what a better way to make a child feel special and comforted than by giving them a personalized blanket from Admiral Road Designs.

Amy Ballon and Danielle Botterell founded Admiral Road Designs in 2002 as a way to express their creativity and nurture their families. Since then the Admiral Road Designs line has added many new products but the emphasis is still on the beauty of their fleece blankets for babies. Today, Amy and Danielle mix business meetings with play dates and still mange to keep up with growing children and an ever expanding business. But that is just how they want it.

Princess P was sent the Personalized Owl Baby Blanket to keep her safe and warm. When it arrived she immediately fell in love with its soft fleece and fun design. I immediately fell in love with its unique colors and the fact that it washes easily. It is the perfect size for her to cuddle up in when she watches cartoons or takes a nap. I even keep it handy for a little extra padding when she plays with her toys on the floor. She loves to poke at the owl and talk to it as it keeps her warm. I love that I can throw it in the washing machine with her other clothes and it doesn't peel! And it seems that every time I wash the blanket it gets softer! With a wide variety of styles and colors to choose from I am sure you can find a soft, cuddly blanket for every child on your list!
But if your child already has that comfort blankie that they will not put down, Admiral Road Designs has other items that they will fall in love with. Admiral Road Designs now offers Treasure Tee's that have actual toys sewn into the shirts! How fun it that? And moms don't worry, you can wash and dry these innovative tees. Admiral Road Designs also has really fun scarves that have playful designs like cupcakes, monkeys and crayons. Maybe this way they will keep their scarves on!

Lauren Nicole Gifts Review & Giveaway

Lauren Nicole Gifts
*This giveaway is now closed.*
When I receive a monogrammed gift it always holds a special place in my heart. It means someone actually put thought into the gift and had it custom made rather than just running out and grabbing the first thing they see. While there are many places to find monogrammed items the quality of the products can be less than desirable. But that is definitely not the case at Lauren Nicole Gifts!

After deciding to follow her dream, owner Denise Freidhoff started Lauren Nicole, LLC (named after her niece) in 2004. All of the items at Lauren Nicole Gifts are 100% handmade and/or monogrammed with 90% of the designs on the website being original. Denise's goal is to offer unique personalized gifts at reasonable prices.

I received the Wax Seal Round Initial Necklace in Fine Sliver from Lauren Nicole Gifts to review. The necklace arrived in an adorable tin that makes it perfect for gift giving. I am simply in awe of the shear beauty of this necklace. The fine silver wax seal pendant is adorned with an "E" initial in an elegant font and paired with a ruby bead charm to really make it pop. The pendant came on a 16" Rolo Sterling Sliver chain that compliments it beautifully. You can truly make this necklace a custom creation with 16 different bead choices and 3 chain links to choose from. The Wax Seal Round Initial Necklace would make a wonderful gift for someone you truly cared about.

Lauren Nicole Gifts offers many other items that would make perfect gifts including some very special holiday items. I know I would love to open up the Script Monogram Bracelet this Christmas!

MADD Launches New Website

My daughter is only 16 months old but I think about her future daily. What will she look like when she is 16? What college will she go to? Will we have to worry about her underage drinking? While we won't know all of the answers until that time comes there is something we can do to prepare her for one. Underage drinking.

Roughly 6,000 people will die this year in direct correlation with underage drinking.

On October 27th MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) launched The Power Of Parents - It's Your Influence. This website has been designed to provide information for parents with key tips, information and tools to help us at home reach out to our teens and communicate the real life danger of underage alcohol use.

74% of kids will turn to their parents for guidance on drinking.

The Power Of Parents website will have information categorized from Elementary School to College to help parents strongly impact their teens decisions regarding alcohol. At the website you can also find help and support on the Online Community (they also have a Twitter account!) and Sign up to receive emails from MADD's Parent Initiatives.

Underage alcohol use kills more young people than illegal drugs combined.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of MADD. A donation was made to MADD in my name to thank me for taking the time to participate.

We just got the call...

C did not get the job.

Update:
After the initial shock wore off I came to realize that we need to be grateful that C even has a job. No, it is no where near what we were making but at least we can pay our bills on time or close to it. We just don't have much to spend after the fact and that is where we need to tighten our belts. I know lots of families are really struggling right now and they are about to lose everything. So I really need to just step back and count my blessings everyday. Everything happens for a reason...

Wordless Wednesday: My Lil' Pumpkin Last Year

(She was such a chunky monkey! I cannot believe how much she has grown!)

Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker Review & Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed.*
From the same creative minds that brought you Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake comes a Christmas spectacular sure to delight your littlest ballerina, Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker. Take a magical journey with Prima Princessa to the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy. On your journey you will see beautiful snow fairies, captivating ballerinas, and a handsome prince or two. Along with excerpts from "Nutcracker"performed by the world famous San Francisco Ballet, you will see real ballet steps demonstrated by students from the School of American Ballet and young tutu-clad ballerinas intimating the same steps.

We reviewed a copy of Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake a few months back and I really enjoyed it. Princess P was just finding out what television and movies were at the time so she was kind of in and out watching it. But this time when we were asked to review Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker I hoped P would be a little more interested.

As soon as the movie was turned on it grabbed Princess P's attention with the holiday music. During the course of the movie she would watch Prima Princessa intensely as she flew across the screen and she would twirl with the little girls as they danced around the floor. She giggled as the ballerinas danced in the snow and tried to grab the TV screen when the large lollipops went by. While she did not sit through the entire movie (she is only 16 months old!) certain things drew her back in. As for me, I enjoyed watching the San Francisco ballet perform and it definitely got me excited for the upcoming holidays!

Prima Princessa Presents The Nutcracker would make a perfect gift this holiday season! For some coloring fun visit the Prima Princessa website for printable coloring pages that your budding ballerinas will love!

Excused Absence

Did you notice that I haven't been around for a few days? I tried to post a couple of times but the wireless internet signal that I was "borrowing" from the people next door was v-e-r-y slow. So yeah, I came home to a crap ton of emails and posts I have to finish. You would have thought that since this little trip had been planned for a few weeks I would have prepared but I didn't.

The reason behind this little trip was rather significant to our future. As most of you know C recently got out of the Air Force and we moved back home to be near our families. Well, the economy in this rural area sucks just as bad as the rest and I was laid off from my job that I had only worked at for a couple of months. And yes, I worked for my in-laws but they had to make the best business decision for them at the time. And yes, before you ask it did cause a minor rift in our relationship that I am slowly trying to get over. Anywho, we are back down to one paycheck that is significantly less than what C was bringing home in the military so we had to explore other options. C applied for a job in a big city and he landed an interview. We went down last week and he had his three hour long interview on Friday. We are still waiting to hear if he got the job or not...

(P and M hugging it out)

While we were down there we were lucky enough to be able to stay with C's brother and his family. Princess P got to play with her cousin that is only 24 days older than her and we all had a really great time. We also looked a lot of houses just in case we hear good news. One plus for us (not so much everyone else) is that the housing market has really tanked where we are looking and we were able to find some awesome houses in our price range. I am not getting my hopes up just yet, anything can happen. I will keep everyone posted when we hear back. Keep your fingers crossed for good news!

SodaStream Review & Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed.*
Usually when the holidays arrive so do the house guests. That leaves you scrambling around making sure your pantry is stocked and your refrigerator is fully loaded. But it never fails, you will run out of something. This year make sure your guests don't get thirsty by having a SodaStream Soda Maker on hand.

SodaStream/Soda-Club is the worlds largest manufacturer and distributor of Home Carbonation Systems. Soda-Club/SodaStream provides over 600 million liters of carbonated beverages to more than 8 million households every year. That makes Soda-Club one of the largest beverage companies in the world. Soda-Club is also more environmentally friendly than pre-packaged beverages because you mix and bottle the drinks at home. This also provides a cost saving to the consumer and eliminates the hassle with other bottles.

SodaStream offers a variety of kits to get you started on your beverage making journey. They sent me the Genesis Starter Kit in red which includes one Soda Maker, one 60-Liter Licensed Carbonator and two Carbonating Bottles. SodaStream also sent me a variety of Soda Mixes (Diet Cola, Cranberry-Raspberry, Root Beer, Cream Soda, Diet Pink Grapefruit, Orange, Diet Ginger Ale, Lemon-Lime, Energy, and Orange, Berry and Lemon-Line mywater flavors) to try. Placing the carbonator into the soda maker was simple and easy to do. Once that task is complete and you are ready to start making beverages.

Then you fill the bottle with (chilled) water and screw the bottle into the machine. Press the carbonating button in short presses until you hear a loud buzz. (This was the most fun part for me.) I found that when pushing the button 3 buzzes provided enough fizz for my liking. Then you pull the bottle forward, which makes a futuristic sound, and unscrew to remove.

Once you have chosen your desired flavor pour it in slowly and shake gently. Upon tasting the different beverages I could not believe that they were made at home and did not come from a store. I found the Orange and Diet Cola to be some of my favorite flavors while C liked the Root Beer and Cream Soda mixes.

One of the things I love about the SodaStream Soda Maker is that you don't have to plug it into an electrical outlet. It also manages to look super stylish while sitting atop your counter. This would make a perfect holiday gift especially for the hostess on your list that has everything.

Giveaway Giveaway

One lucky reader will win a Fountain Jet Soda Lovers Start-Up Kit!

It comes with the Fountain Jet in your choice of color (black/silver, white or red/silver), CO2 to make over 100 liters of soda, 2 reusable carbonating bottles, a sample pack of flavors, and 3 full-sized flavors of your choice! ($100 ARV)

To Enter: You must visit SodaStream and tell me the three flavors you would choose if you were the lucky winner.

Alice.com Review & Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed.*
Every year as the holidays get closer my to-do-list grows longer and longer. By the time the actual holidays arrive I am begging for them to be over. But this year I am not dreading them half as bad because I have someone on my side. Let me introduce you to Alice, Alice.com that is.

Alice.com has redefined the way you shop for home essentials.

Sure you can buy clothes online. Heck, you can even buy cars online. So why are there only a handful of places to buy everyday household items? That is exactly what the talented team behind Alice.com set out to change. By adding features like instant coupons savings and free shipping, Alice has created a stress free shopping experience that everyone can enjoy.

To get started at Alice.com you first need to create an account. The account is free and you can cancel at anytime. After adding your family members and the products you use it is time to start shopping! Alice.com gave me $20 to spend and I was determined to stretch it as far as I could. For me, it was easiest to use the "Shop by room" feature, that way I could pinpoint exactly what we needed. When you click on your desired room the product page displays featured products that, in most cases, contain items with coupons as well as subcategories to make your search that much easier. When you have chosen the item simply click to add. This is where Alice.com outdoes itself! You can look at product reviews for the item, see how much it costs at other stores and it even allows you to set a certain time frame to remind you that you need to reorder that product! Talk about never running out of toilet paper again!

So what was I able to buy with $20 from Alice.com? Toothpaste (that was on sale for $1.69!), liquid fabric softener, paper towels, stain remover, dishwasher detergent, dish liquid and facial cream. That was 7 items for under $20! The best part was every item, with the exception of the facial cream, came with a coupon. I saved 2.55 and did not even have to go through the process of clipping all of those coupons! Alice also keeps a Budgeting tab of your savings per month and even brakes it down per room.

The whole shopping process was very pleasant. I was able to get everything I needed without having to take a teething toddler with me into a crowded store. So all I was left to do was wait and trust me that did not take long. Just two days later my Alice.com package arrived at my doorstep. I anxiously opened it wondering if I would find spilled dish detergent and fabric softener. Alice.com really does think of everything! All of the lids were taped and the "spillable" items were in a Ziploc bag.

Alice.com is definitely going to be one of my go-to online stores, especially around the holidays when time is scarce. You can stock up on all of the items you need for extra guests (in your p.j.'s) and not have to battle the holiday shoppers. And to make your holidays a little less stressful Alice.com is giving one of my readers the perfect gift!

The Studio by Danielson Designs Review & Giveaway

*This giveaway is now closed*
Personalized home decor is my favorite kind of home decor. Take a custom photo frame from Danielson Designs for example. It not only transports you back to that certain place and time but it also tells a story to everyone who passes by it.

18 years ago in the town of Trinidad, Colorado the Danielson Designs journey began. Annie with her knack for creative designs and Mark with his custom woodshop brought the first frame to life. Then another and another and so on. Now, Danielson Designs is one of southern Colorado's largest employers. They have also been named Wall Decor Company of the year and regularly listed as one of the fastest growing companies in their industry.

When I learned that I was getting the opportunity to review a item from Danielson Designs I was over the moon. I quickly headed over to their website to choose that glorious piece. I found one I really liked, clicked on it to customize and viewed the finished product. Easy enough. Then I made a tragic mistake. I wanted to look at a couple of more options. That one little decision distracted me for two days! I kept going back and fourth between designs and I could not choose! Each one was absolutely gorgeous and captured that moment in full! I gave up and had to do Eeny, meeny, miny, moe!

(edited verison of Princess P's frame)

I was very happy when "moe" landed on the Child's Frame. It was so perfect for Princess P. Now that the frame was chosen was I 100% sure on what I had put on it? No. Luckily, The Studio by Danielson Designs has a very helpful collection of quotes. I came across the "When I count my blessings, I count you twice." quote and I instantly fell in love. The entire customization process is easy and fun. I do have one word of advice though. When you go to add the custom piece to your cart make sure you thoroughly look over the item before you check the box "Design Approved". Thankfully, my mistake was caught and changed before the frame was made. When it arrived, which did not take very long at all, I was blown away by the detail and beauty of the frame. The colors and letter designs are perfect. The frame is so stunning and will be treasured for years to come.

If your house is overrunning with framed memories, The Studio by Danielson Designs has other creations that will add a little personalization to your home decor. Their Monogrammed designs are perfect for a newly married couple and the Signs make wonderful gifts for grandparents. I know Danielson Designs will be one of my first stops for Holiday shopping this year! And just in case you are thinking the same thing Danielson Designs is giving you a super sweet discount code.
